Abort the Bomb and Save Our Spitfires!
It’s the summer of 1940, and Britain is reeling from the harrowing evacuation of Dunkirk…
The situation is dire. The Battle of Britain is about to begin and we are outnumbered and outgunned. Our best hope is the Spitfire, built right here in Southampton.
But… a German spy has stolen the plans and his team plans to destroy the spitfire factory.
The spy has been apprehended, but his team are still at large.
Your mission – Infiltrate the hideout, decipher the abort code, and broadcast it before it’s too late.
You have just 90 minutes agents before the factory is destroyed, and with it, the hopes of us all!
So what really happened in Woolston in 1940? The Supermarine works started in Woolston, then added a second factory in Itchen. As demand increased, the decision was made to mass-produce the spitfire in a large factory at Castle Bromwich in the Midlands. The problem was it wasn’t ready. Supermarine was used to making small numbers of precision aircraft. Now they had to make hundreds…fast! Being so close to the edge of Southampton Water made them a prime target to the Luftwaffe and extremely vulnerable to attack. Supermarine and the workers of Southampton were true heroes of 1940 as they continued to build spitfires at a rapid pace despite numerous bombing raids. Throughout September 1940, bombing attacks became more frequent until on 26th September an attack of over 60 bombers brought the Supermarine factory to its knees. The workers of Woolston bought enough time, despite many paying the ultimate sacrifice, for the Spitfire production to continue across Britain. Thanks to the Spitfire, Britain continued to rule the skies.
Operation Spitfire is our tribute to honour the workers of Woolston. It is a great way to remember the role of Southampton in WW2 in an engaging way. The escape room is suitably challenging and authentically 1940s. We took poetic licence with the story of the room but were inspired by real events and outcomes. The game is suitable for 2-7 players aged 13+ at the five-star-rated Sneaky Dog Escapes, Woolston, Southampton.

Absolutely fabulous experience! The attention to detail was second to none and the puzzles were well considered and varied. Enough room for a group of six to work comfortably and more rooms to explore than any previous escape rooms completed.
The host was brilliant and gave enough subtle hints to keep us moving without giving away too much. Definitely the best in Southampton and possibly the south of England. When you have a 90 minute limit it makes such a pleasant change to actually need the whole time. Was absolutely worth every penny!
